2018 Laptop Rollout
1.  What are the specifications of the new laptop?
MacBook Air 13-inch:
Processor: 2.2 Intel Core i7
Memory: 8GB ram
Hard Drive: 256GB SSD
Warranty: 3-year AppleCare Protection

2.  What is the benefit of the new model?
- The new model has a faster processor and is lighter weight that the current staff model.

3. What is the process for turning in and picking up the new laptop?
- First ensure you have backed up your data from the current computer.
- Remove all covers, stickers, or decals
- Watch the 4 videos about the contract, the new operating system and the applications.
- Sign up for an appointment to swap your computer.
- On the day of your appointment, log out of iTunes and iCloud on your current computer.
- Come to Balas ITD and follow the posted stations to return and pick up your new device.

4.  Can I just show up at the helpdesk in May?
- Please do not just show up at the helpdesk. Signups will be sent via district 
announcement and will begin the end of May.

5.  Can we just bring a check in for the cracked screen at the time of the swap?
- In order to exchange for a new model, staff must return their existing undamaged 
laptop and power cord. If your current laptop is in need of service, please make 
arrangements to bring it into ITD now for assessment.
Cracked screens, liquid spills or other accidental damage to a laptop being 
returned will be assessed for damages per the contract. All costs must be paid 
before a new laptop is issued. Yes, please bring checkbook to pay damages 
assessed. No Cash will be accepted during the exchange.
6.  Does this rollout include Teacher Consultants?
- Yes, to teacher consultants

7. If I am retiring, do I need to sign up?
- No, if retiring before September 2018 you do not need to sign up.

8.  Notice of a battery problem… should I bring it to the Help Desk?
- Yes, any damage/issues should be reported to the helpdesk.

9. If my cracked screen was an accident, will I have to pay?
- Any damage to the machine during the time it is in the care of the user
 is the responsibility of the user who signed the device contract.

10. Is there a DVD or CD drive?
- The replacement model does not have a DVD/CD/Optical drive.
  DVD/CD drives will be allocated to the building for check out when needed.

11. I am a new teacher -- do I need to sign up?
- Yes, please sign up if you have received a laptop this year, as you were
 given a repurposed laptop.

12.  Will there be opportunities in June and July or is the plan to give them all out in May?
- We’ll begin in June and extend into summer.

13. I love my MacBook Pro. Do I HAVE to give back my Pro?
- Yes, all teachers MacBook Pros are being replaced. Returned laptops 
will be processed and re-issued for use in the district.

14. Can I buy my current MacBook Pro?
- No. These machines were purchased with Bond dollars and will be repurposed.

NOTE: ITD will hold returned laptops for two weeks from the date of exchange
 to allow staff to verify that they successfully transferred all desired files from their
 old machine via their backups. After two weeks, the hard drives
 on returned machines will be securely wiped out and the machines will
 be repurposed for use in other locations or for parts to maintain the fleet.
